The F40 sofa, design by Marcel Breuer for Tecta, is a reproduction of the original sofa designed in 1931. Legend has it that he was cycling around Bauhaus Dessau when he was struck by the strength and lightness of this bicycle frame and realized its potential for crafting lightweight, elegant, and industrially-produced furniture.

A rare example of a cantilever sofa, it features Breuer's beloved tubular steel and flat iron nickel plated, with loose tacked upholstery in seat and back. The edition reissued by Tecta in 2000 is available in fabric and leather.

Marcel Breuer is considered one of the fathers of Modernism, and responsible for a number of furniture designs, though perhaps no chair design is more famous than his Wassily Chair. Designed in 1925, the Wassily chair was the first bent-tubular steel-framed chair.

In 1946, Breuer left Harvard and opened an office in New York where his first partner was the industrial designer Eliot Noyes. His first building to be completed after the War was the Geller House on Long Island, a spacious, airy wooden structure hailed as a "house of the future" by the press.Made in Germany by Tecta.
