BORN & DEATH 1935-2005 NATIONALITY Denmark

Jørgen Høvelskov trained as a cabinetmaker until 1955 whereafter he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts – The School of Design in Copenhagen from where he graduated in 1959. As a furniture designer Høvelskov is best known for the Harpestolen (eng. The harp string chair) made by Christensen og Larsen in 1963.

Harpestolen was presented at the Snedkerlaugets Møbeludstilling in the same year under the name Vikingestolen (eng. The viking chair) due to its form being inspired by the harp instrument and a Viking ship’s bow section.

Jørgen Høvelskov died in 2005 at the age of 70.
