GE1936 Venus Chair, 1948 Original Manufacturer: Getama > Designer: Hans J. Wegner > Country: Denmark
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The name "Venus" is inspired by Botticelli's painting of the goddess of love Venus, which is blown ashore standing on a clam shell.
Hans J. Wegner's sofa and armchair were created as a follow-up to his idea for an American competition in 1948.
Use of plywood in aircraft below 2. World War II inspired Wegner in 1948 for this series, which became his first furniture with moulded plywood shells.
The design of the chair is clearly divided into the supporting - the solid frame - and the carried - the plywood shells.
The small dimensions of the set make it particularly suitable for small spaces and with its sculptural shapes also for free placement in the space.
The chair is now available with or without fixed upholstery on the seat.
